D. Ohlandt [she/her] is an educator, communicator, and facilitator, but most importantly, she is the parent of three children at Cora Kelly School for Math, Science, and Technology in Alexandria City Public Schools. An Alexandria resident of the Lynhaven neighborhood for the past 10 years and an ACPS parent for five years, D has served on the ACPS redistricting committee and TAGAC committee. D is dedicated to bringing her professional expertise and personal experience to advance the essential work of the Alexandria City Public School Board. As both a parent and an active community member, D has observed the complexity of balancing the needs of students, staff, and families across a diverse school district, and approaches these challenges with openness and sensitivity.
A broadly experienced educator, D has worked as a college professor, an special education inclusion aide in elementary schools, a preschool classroom aide, leadership staff and curriculum developer for summer residential programs, and an experiential education facilitator for children and adults. Her expertise extends from the classroom to the staffroom, as she has set goals and priorities, developed budgets, and managed personnel issues.
D and her family enjoy biking, hiking, camping, reading, museums, and their cats. Her kids also enjoy Minecraft and Roblox. (D, not so much.)
